I know I've been pretty silent the last few months. This semester has been kicking me backward, forward and every which way. I come home brain fried, making writing difficult, and I'm so tired I don't stay up as late as I used to. However, I have found something to relieve the stress that takes more creativity than brain power and it's very calming.
If anyone misses me, I guess you could blame skellorg
for introducing me to the wonderful world of Apophysis and fractals. I find myself spending much of my leisure hours playing with my fractal maker and posting pics at my deviantart account
. I've actually sold a couple prints of my work! (no, I have to admit I didn't make much money, but that still makes me a professional artist now, doesn't it lol?
I've linked a couple of pics. Come visit if you're interested XD.Celtic HeartsA Thousand Points of LightFolded Spiral
Yeah, I know it's been a while. I'm getting slammed at work because of the new lab at our satellite campus... and the lab manager that was NOT hired because of budget cuts. Sure, the college is paying me extra, but it's eating up a good portion of my time and I come home so tired it takes me most of Saturday to recover.
Anyway, I posted 40 icons in my graphics journal for a challenge at obsessive100
, so I thought I would put a link on this journal. Feel free to snag any you like, but please comment so that I know what kind of icons to make in the future.
Sneak peak: The rest are here at my icon journal
I know I haven't been around much lately. I just don't have a great deal of time to write in this journal. Besides, I've sorta lost some of my muse for writing X-Men fanfiction, although I haven't given up on my RPG.
You might say I have a new creative obsession, or maybe not exactly new, but a strengthening one. I've really gotten interested in computer graphics, like making icons and banners. I've also discovered the fun of making fractals. Since most of the people on my f-list are involved in the X-Men fandom, I decided to start a new graphics journal shadow_graphics
for my secular work. Anyone is welcome to friend it if they like my icons. I chose graphics rather than icons because I am involved in making other types of graphics than icons, along with PS brushes. I will be also be linking more to my Deviant Art account. Likewise, there is witness_graphic
, the faith based community that I mod, where I will continue to post my Christian icons and graphics.
The following were done for an icon challenge at the new community - obsessive100
. The challenge is to make 100 icons in 10 weeks in a particular subject area (my choice), matching 50 themes given by the mods, and 50 icons purely the creator's choice.
The subject of the icon set is dance, and includes many different styles of dance and icon types. So far I have posted 30/100. Feel free to check them out and take what you like, just please comment on what strikes your fancy.

When you see this in a friend's journal, quote Shakespeare!
"The quality of mercy is not strain'd. It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven upon the place beneath. It is twice blest: It blesseth him that gives and him that takes."
One of my all time favorite Shakespeare quotes from Merchant of Venice
On this blessed of all days, it is quite appropriate. As the Lord was merciful to us, so we too should return that mercy to others.
I meant to get this up earlier, but better late than never.
Happy Easter to all my friends.
To those of you for whom this day means more than just chocolate bunnies and colored eggs -

It's SPRING BREAK!!!
This year the prof is heading out with her students.
Hubby and I are leaving for four days in the Keys early tomorrow morning, so I better get to bed. We have a bungalow (one bedroom cottage) in Islamorada. We plan to fish, snorkel, sit in the sun and REST. I already scoped out the restaurants, with names like The Hungry Tarpon, Squid Row and Mangrove Mike's.
Man, I can't wait. I promise I'll post a few piccies when we get back.
Adios muchachos, catch you all on the flip side.
I am not generally in the habit of writing this kind of post. I try not to make a practice of bragging on myself, but I’m just too thrilled to keep quiet this time.
I finally won first place in obsessiveicons
, a very respected icon designer’s community! – OI Icon Contest
I’ve won other icon making awards (but never first place) and one fanfiction award (not a big deal, there were only two entries). I’ve been thinking of making an awards page, more because someone goes to a lot of trouble making the banners that they hand out. In gratitude for the designer's hard work, I think they should be displayed somewhere. If I were that big on tooting my own horn, you would have heard about it before now.
I’m kind of on the fence about this. Would anyone think I’m being a show-off if I did that?
Oh, and if anyone likes the icon, feel free to snag it. Credit is appreciated but I won't get bent out of shape if you don't.
This afternoon was about as good as it gets weather-wise in Florida, IMHO – Cloudless sky, warm but not hot, low humidity – perfect spring day. It will last all of two or three weeks, and then it will get HOT.
I was so exited about something that came into our yard. (Of course I realize that this may not be that exciting to the people on my flist, but you have to remember I’m a biologist.)
We had a pair of painted buntings come to our bird feeder!! Painted Bunting
I immediately ran for the binoculars, because I’d never seen one in the wild. I knew we had them locally because a colleague of mine brought a dead male to work one time to add to the college’s collection of animals. (He didn’t kill the poor thing and he didn’t know how it had died either.)
The males are perhaps America’s most colorful native bird, while the females are several shades of green. They are about sparrow size, and very cute. I hope the pair sticks around for awhile, although the bird field guide says they are only winter residents of Florida.

Just got back from a visit to the walk-in clinic. (Try getting your regular doctor to see you Friday afternoon.) I have had something on my back that was really itchy for about two weeks now, but it was in the upper center so I couldn’t reach it and could barely see it. I had my hubby examine it and he told me it was a skin tag, and that it looked like it had dried up and was going to fall off. I took his word for it, until it got a little larger and the area around it became inflamed. I finally had time to go to the doctor today, but I sincerely hoped I didn’t need to see a dermatologist.( Cut for TMICollapse )
Just recently added to my meager action figure collection. Colossus is my newest (or maybe not so new) obsession. He joins Movie Nightcrawler, Comic Nightcrawler, Legolas, Puss in Boots and my Peter Pan snowglobe. Somewhere I have a comic Storm too, who used to be up there cuddling Comic Kurt. (Heavens, I hope she didn't run off with my stuffed black panther :P ) ( Piccie under the cutCollapse )
Poor guy doesn't fit too well with the rest. I've had a long running obsession with pointy-eared swashbucklers, and he's neither. Even so, as a sensitive artist he has a place in my heart. It doesn’t hurt that I’m RPing his girlfriend at Left Turn either ; ).
I just found out I'm an Auntie... a GREAT Auntie... for the first time. Hubby's older sister's daughter just gave birth to a baby boy.
I guess I should just be thankful that I'm not a Granny yet. Daughter dearest is too busy with her new job to even contemplate having a boyfriend. It'll be fun when the time comes, but I can wait.
Never realized I haven't updated for almost a month. Maybe that'll change.
Whoot!!!! A wireless laptop and finally got DSL up and running. I don't feel so ancient now.
This is even faster than at work, so now I can get more things done. Yeah, and I can finally watch all the streaming videos my friends post. Now all I need to do is win the lottery so I can have more time to play.
I don't have much time online as I am visiting my family in Pennsylvania. No white Christmas this year, but lots of friends and family, caroling, candles and plenty of laughter (not to mention the food, which is wrecking my diet, but we won't talk about that). My mother got my brother a pair of kittens, brother and sister, and they keep us very well entertained.
I just wanted to wish everyone on my friends list that celebrates it a very Merry Christmas.

Can’t believe I only posted once this month. It seems like there just aren’t enough hours in the day. Finals are soon, and then I have three weeks off, but I’m going to be away two of those weeks and with very little Internet.

1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate?
Does the egg nog have rum in it? Okay really, hot chocolate
2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
Wrapped of course, except for things like bikes.
3. Colored lights on tree/house or white?
White on house, colored on tree.
4. Do you hang mistletoe?
Not at home, don’t need that to get hubby to smooch me. ( rest of meme under cutCollapse )
